A Family Establishment

Book and Lyrics: Justin Taylor
Music: Jeff Tang

In New York in 1967, Fat Tony, Mario and Zookie, three young mafiosi in the Genovese crime family, tried to make their fortunes by opening the first known gay bar with dancing. They got their jackpot, alright, but dancing unleashed a queer energy no one could contain and catapulted their bar - and the world - into revolution. Written for drag kings to play the three mafiosi, the musical theatrically queers the lesser known hetero roots of this major chapter in queer history and hilariously explores the true taboo at the heart of Stonewall that had the police, “The Family” and LGBT people at odds: gender transgression.
